Standing Up to Failures
Thomas Edison once remarked that he did not fail a thousand times before inventing the light bulb. He just found a thousand ways of how it doesn’t work. It doesn’t matter how many times you fail. What really matters is how you stand up from these failures.
I have always been facing failures as I try to drive Dialogue in the Dark to become a successful and financially sustainable social enterprise in Malaysia, no longer dependant charitable donations. Failure is truly part of the journey of an entrepreneur, whether you are the social or conventional kind. But failures are just markers along the path to success.
On this glorious Friday 13th, I have to face another marker to success. Due to pressing challenges in raising the much needed funds to bear for Master Chef Christine Ha and her husband’s mobility and travel expenses from the US to Malaysia, we had to make the painful decision of cancelling her trip at the final hour. Christine was very disappointed as she had been looking forward to her trip and she was to be the highlight of the Art Includes Festival 2019, our Magnus Opus event to bring highly acclaimed international artistes to inspire our young abled and disabled communities in Malaysia.
While I apologise for Master Chef Christine Ha not being able to make an appearance, the show must and will go on! All the other 10 equally amazing artistes and entrepreneurs will be there to inspire us all with their stories of resilience and how they have stood up to failures on the way to achieve success and acclaim.
My heartfelt gratitude for your continued support of our Art Includes Festival 2019 to inspire our budding Young Differently Enabled Children and Youths to be like Patrick Teoh, Art Jamilah, Dr Azariah Tan, Sristi and the rest!
